SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – “It’s been a long time coming.” That’s what City Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran said about plans to develop hundreds of acres around Texas A&M University-San Antonio.

City Council Thursday approved the sale of the land from Verano to SouthStar Communities, which is based in new Braunfels. The developers are planning to build thousands of residential units, in addition to retail and office space near the campus in the city’s South Side.

“They’re also including mobility options, transportation options, a beautiful loop that’s going to go to the University toward Loop 410,” said  Viagran.

The project is called Vida, the Spanish word for life.

“I think it’s all coming together here to breathe new life into this part of San Antonio that has needed it and wanted it for so long,” said Viagran.
