City Council approves downtown stadium for San Antonio Missions
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A minor league baseball stadium appears to be coming to downtown San Antonio.
After public discussion Thursday, City Council voted 9-2 in favor of the new project, which comes with a price tag of $160 million. With an open date projected for April 2028, development in the surrounding area is expected to create tax revenue that will go toward the cost. The San Antonio Missions ownership will provide $34 million in equity and will secure the debt with a line of credit, according to KSAT-12.
The two votes against the park for the San Diego Padres’ AA-affiliate came from Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez (D2) and Councilwoman Teri Castillo (D5).
Residents of the nearby Soap Factory Apartments are not in favor of the project given that they will have to relocate over time.
