Coast Guard rescues passengers from sinking boat in Port Aransas

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — An 87 foot pleasure craft is under water in Port Aransas after sinking during a cruise Monday morning.

The Coast Guard responded to a call for help from an area near the Port Aransas Municipal Boat Marina at around 9:25 A.M.

That’s where the Pensées was taking on water with 15 people on board.

The Coast Guard sent out a 45 foot response boat and the crew managed to rescue everyone on board.

They tried using pumps to de-water the Pensées which is currently submerged near the marina.

Joel Salgado-Castro, operations unit controller at Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi released the following statement:

“Thanks to the attentiveness of these boaters and their use of a VHF-FM radio, our rescue crews were able to provide assistance before the situation worsened. Utilization of reliable communication equipment helps us rapidly detect and respond to emergencies.”

The owner of the vessel will arrange to have it salvaged. No injuries were reported.
