Comal River in New Braunfels reopens for recreation after weekend storms force closure

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Comal River in New Braunfels has reopened for recreation.

The waterway was closed down on Memorial Day after heavy rain on Sunday night created some dangerous conditions.

A post on the New Braunfels Police Department’s Facebook page announced the river was moving fast and there was a lot of debris.

But the water has receded and some of the debris has been cleaned up.

The Department is reminding river-users to use extra caution because there is still some debris that may not be visible from the surface and they encourage wearing a life vest when doing any water related activity.

Recreation on the Guadalupe River wasn’t affected by the weekend storms and it remains open.
