SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – A part-time employee at a local mega church  has been fired after reportedly admitting to inappropriate behavior with minors in the youth ministry.

In a statement on the Community Bible Church website, Pastor Ed Newton said there are fewer than 10 victims and most of the cases involved inappropriate communication with the kids via social media.  He said one case involved more than electronic communication.

“Whether it’s inappropriate electronic communication or inappropriate physical contact, it’s wrong, it’s illegal and it will not be tolerated at all,” said Newton.

The employee was fired and church officials contacted law enforcement after he confessed.

He had worked at the church for 8 months and had been properly vetted prior to his hiring.

“There was no absolute reason to believe that this person posed a risk,” said Newton.

The individual has been banned from CBC and  is not allowed to attend any CBC-related events.

“We are praying and doing our best to provide compassionate support to the victims,”  said Newton.  He added that they’re also praying for the perpetrator.
