SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — It’s an unofficial official announcement: Wendy Davis is running against Chip Roy for Congress.

A caravan of Democrats came to Texas earlier this week to support Davis, who has not publicly announced a run for Congress.

A congressional aide — specifically a press secretary for Brownsville Rep. Filemon Vela —told the Austin American-Statesman Thursday that the former state senator is running for Congress.

She will be competing against Chip Roy for the 21st Congressional District, which runs from Austin down to San Antonio and covers a large portion of the Hill Country.

Davis served in the state legislature while living in the Fort Worth area.  She has since moved to Austin.

Her last political run was a landslide loss to Greg Abbott in the 2014 gubernatorial race.

Democrats see the 21st Congressional District as being winnable, since Roy won the seat by a three point margin over Joseph Kopser.  That race was to replace long-time incumbent Lamar Smith who did not seek reelection.
