SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) -Congressman Joaquin Castro is blasting President Trump’s trade adviser for saying the impeachment inquiry is an attempted coup d’etat. Peter Navarro, White House Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, also told Fox News that he didn’t know who was more dangerous, House Democrats or the Iranians or the Chinese.

Castro told CNN those comments are highly irresponsible.

“That’s the kind of language that can lead to civil unrest in this country,” said Castro. “Those are false claims, but for him to be talking like that is highly irresponsible.”

The member of the House Intelligence Committee also told CNN that the President’s words are close to bringing harm to the whistleblower who reported Trump’s phone call with the Ukrainian leader.

“The president, at this point, has been very abusive of the Whistleblower Protection Act and really is basically on the verge of not only revealing the identity or getting somebody else to reveal the identity of the whistleblower, but also bringing harm to that person,” Castro said. “It’s getting quite scary, the president’s behavior and his words and what that could conjure up.”

The Democrat says the whistleblower is under full federal protection, but he speculated that someone in the White House who knows the identity may “leak” the information.
