Congressman Cuellar calls Justice Democrats socialists
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Congressman Henry Cuellar is firing back at progressives who are threatening to ‘primary’ him. The moderate Democrat , whose district includes part of Bexar County, told Neil Cavuto on Fox News that members of the group called Justice Democrats are socialists.
“It’s this group called the Justice Democrats. I think they’re not Democrats, quite honestly, they’re socialists,” Cuellar said.
It’s the same group that worked to get Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez elected to the U.S. House. Now they’re going after the Democratic leadership in Congress, primarily moderates. Cuellar is being challenged in the Democratic Primary by Jessica Cisneros, one of his former interns. She’s a 26-year-old immigration attorney, and Vogue.com suggested she could be the next Ocasio Cortez.
“They want to impose their vision to Texas,” said Cuellar.
He noted that he’s not the only incumbent Democrat they’re going after. Cuellar says they’re also going after those with a pro-Israel voting record.
“Their vision is not the vision of most Americans.”
He also touted the $4.6 billion bipartisan immigration package approved by Congress last month. Ocasio-Cortez and others voted against it, saying it amounted to giving President Trump a blank check.
“That is not correct because there are protocols that Homeland (Security) has. There are protocols that ICE has,” said Cuellar.
“There’s language that I have added there to make sure that we have transparency and protection for the migrant kids.”
