Congressman Joaquin Castro undergoes surgery to have cancerous tumors removed
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Congressman Joaquin Castro is recovering at his San Antonio home after undergoing surgery to have cancerous tumors removed.
Castro sent out a tweet announcing that the “small, slow-growing, mostly asymptomatic” tumors were discovered in his gastro-intestinal tract during some tests last summer.
“My prognosis is good. I expect to be home recovering in Texas for several weeks before returning to Washington to continue my work for the people of my hometown, San Antonio.”
Castro went on to thank the doctors, nurses and medical staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center and UT Health and Science Center for the care and treatment he received.
The 48 year old Democrat has been in Congress since 2013.
Today, I successfully underwent surgery to remove gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors. Last summer, doctors discovered these small, slow-growing, and mostly asymptomatic tumors after a series of tests.https://t.co/sA73ioWBjo
