Texas Senator John Cornyn is a serious contender to be the next Federal Bureau of Investigation director.
Cornyn has served Texans for more than three decades, according to his online biography. He was a district judge, member of the Texas Supreme Court and was Texas Attorney General.
University of Houston political science professor Brandon Rottinghaus told us why Cornyn might not be the best candidate for the job.
“He is somebody who has been in a lot of partisan fights and might have made some enemies across the aisle,” Rottinghaus said. However, he added that Cornyn is very well-respected in Washington and has a long history of being on the criminal justice experience.
Rottinghaus also believes Texas would like to keep Cornyn in leadership.
Cornyn was first elected as senator in 2002. He’s currently serving his third term.
