Couple pleads guilty ahead of trial over deadly dog attack
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Jury selection will not be necessary in the case of a deadly dog attack on the West Side.
Ramon Najera, 81, was killed when he and his wife were attacked by two dogs belonging to defendants Christian Moreno and Abilene Schnieder. Both have opted to plead guilty in the attack.
KSAT-12 reports jury selection was supposed to take place August 30, but after Tuesday’s guilty plea a sentencing hearing will be held September 9 with the actual sentencing set for September 20.
Prosecutors are seeking a sentence of 20 years in prison, but the defense is pushing for 10 years of probation.
The attack happened on February 24, 2023. Najera’s wife suffered severe injuries during the attack.
Moreno and Schnieder are both charged with dangerous dog attack resulting in death and injury to the elderly.
This is a developing story and KTSA News will give more details when they are available.
