COVID-19 antibody treatment arrives in Texas

Bamlanivimab arrives in Texas/Screengrab-Governor's News Conference

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) -Gov.  Greg Abbott has announced that the COVID-19 antibody treatment Bamlanivimab has arrived in Lubbock and other parts of Texas.

“It is the Eli Lilly antibody therapeutic treatment. It’s like the drug that was taken by the President that helped him recover so quickly from COVID-19,” Abbott said at a news conference Thursday afternoon in Lubbock.

President Trump received an antibody cocktail made by Regeneron, which the governor hopes will be cleared and sent to Texas soon. He’s also anticipating approval of two anti-COVID-19 vaccines in December, which will be distributed to Texas and other states.

The governor said Bamlanivimab is most effective in patients in the early stages of COVID-19.

“The goal is to give it to them at such an early date that it will keep them out of hospitals,” said Abbott.

Bamlanivimab  is administered through an IV and  the treatment takes about an hour.
