Creator of San Antonio’s Toilet Seat Museum dies

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The owner and creator of a world-famous tourist attraction in Alamo Heights has died.

Relatives say Barney Smith, the creator of the Toilet Seat Art Museum passed away Tuesday evening.

Smith was a retired master plumber and as is the case with most retirees, he took up a hobby.

His just happened to be making art out of toilet seats.

He decorated more than 14-hundred toilet seat lids and in 1992, he opened a museum in his garage.

Smith’s legacy lives on. Late last year he sold his collection to the owner of the  Truck Yard  The Colony, which is near Dallas.

Smith was 98 years old.
