SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The site of one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history is no more.

Within a few hours the former sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs was reduced to a pile of rubble, loaded into trucks and hauled away.

The building was where a gunman killed 26 people during a Sunday morning church service in November of 2017.

It had been used as a memorial to the shooting victims but church members voted to demolish the building in 2021.

A new church has since been built.

Some community members wanted to block the demolition and took the matter to court. A temporary restraining order was granted last month, but another judge denied the request.
