Cross still standing after fire destroys Texas Church

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Could it be a sign from above?

A church in the North Texas city of Bridgeport was destroyed by fire Friday and when the smoke cleared, firefighters found a cross was still standing above the smoldering debris.

When the fire at Balsora Baptist Church was called in several firefighters responded. But the intense heat and the collapsing roof made it even more difficult to extinguish the flames.

Firefighters from other departments were called in to help.

Several firefighters were injured and treated at the scene.

Eventually the fire was put out and the damage to the church is extensive.

With a collapsed roof, walls that have fallen and smoke still filling the air, a cross, slightly charred from the flames, was still standing.

The Wise County ESD Number 2 posted on Facebook that it was a devastating loss to the community, but a sight to behold:

“The fire took the structure, but not the cross. A symbol that the building was just that, a building. The Church is the congregation, and where 2 or more gather, there he shall be also.”

Now the church begins the rebuilding process and they are asking for donations.
