SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Senator Ted Cruz is suggesting that Iran’s missile attack on U.S. forces in Iraq was paid for with money paid to Iran as part of the nuclear deal under the Obama administration.
“They literally flew $1.7 billion dollars in cash, in unmarked bills on pallets in the dead of night into Iran,” Cruz said on Sean Hannity’s show on the Fox News Network. “In a very real sense, the missiles that we saw fired on U.S. service men and women were paid for by the billions that the Obama administration flooded the Ayatollah with.”
The Republican from Texas says there’s been a dramatic shift in policy under the Trump administration. He told Fox News that the airstrike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani was justified. Cruz said Soleimani was the most dangerous terrorist in the world.
“He has directed terror groups across the globe, including Hamas, including Hezbollah, targeting Americans, targeting civilians, and taking him out has made America safer,” said Cruz.
The senator shot down speculation about the U.S. entering an extended war in the Middle East.
“I commend President Trump for following principles of peace through strength, but at the same time, we’re not going to be sending our sons and daughters into harm’s way for an extended land battle in the Middle East,” said Cruz.
