Drunk Driver Hits Patrol Car

A driver has been arrested and charged with DWI after hitting a patrol car and leading officers on a foot chase across a busy downtown expressway.

The officer was in his cruiser while working an accident on IH 37 at IH 10 Wednesday morning when he was struck by a vehicle.

“The officer got out of his patrol car to make contact with the the driver, but the driver fled,” said Officer Douglas Greene.

Police chased the driver and found his car on IH 37 at East Houston where the man and two passengers bailed out and ran .

“The traffic officer had to chase the individual across the NB IH 37 lanes of travel and IH 37 lanes of travel,” said Greene.

They caught up with him and arrested him on a charge of DWI. One of the passengers who had outstanding warrants also was apprehended, but another passenger got away.
