Eight illegal immigrants killed in head-on crash near Del Rio

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Eight illegal immigrants are dead after a horrific head-on crash in Val Verde County.

The wreck happened near Loma Alta, about 30 miles north of Del Rio Monday. Law enforcement officers were attempting to stop a red Dodge pickup as it sped along US 277 when it collided with an oncoming Ford F-150.

Eight passengers in the Dodge were pronounced dead at the scene and the driver tried to run from the scene but he was apprehended and taken into custody.

The two people in the Ford, including a young child, survived the crash. They’re in stable condition at a San Antonio hospital.
