Excessive Heat Warning issued by National Weather Service for San Antonio region

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The dangerous heat will continue for the San Antonio area Thursday.

The National Weather Service says they have upgraded the Heat Advisory to an Excessive Heat Warning. The warning area includes the Eastern Hill Country, the I-35 corridor and a part of the Coastal Plains.

The high in San Antonio Wednesday topped out at 105 and temperatures will break records as they climb to 106 with heat indexes of 112.

The record high temperature for August 22 is 103, set back in 1948.

Forecasters say the temperatures will drop a bit as we head into the weekend with a high of 100 predicted for Friday. 97 is the expected high for Saturday.

In the meantime, there is a high risk of heat related illness for those who don’t take proper precautions.

Those include:

Drinking plenty of water

Take breaks from the sun

Limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours

Never leave children or pets in vehicles

Check up on your relatives and neighbors
