Failed carjacking attempt leads to school lockdown on East Side
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A lockdown at an elementary school has been lifted and a teenager is under arrest after what police are calling a failed carjacking attempt.
It happened Wednesday morning around 8:30 a.m. when investigators say the suspect pulled a gun and tried to steal a car at an apartment complex off Bloomdale and Tallulah Drive.
News 4 San Antonio reports a shot was fired as a struggle got underway, but then the teenager ran off with the victim chasing from behind. When the suspect jumped a fence and ended up on the campus of East Terrell Hills Elementary School, the facility was put on lockdown.
Shortly after, the suspect was found by officers with the North East Police Department. A letter that went out to parents after the incident confirms the gun was also recovered off camps by the San Antonio Police Department.
No injuries were reported.
More than 570 students attend East Terrell Hills, which is part of the North East Independent School District.
