Fatal crash on San Antonio’s Southwest Side shuts down highway

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Police were called to the scene of a fatal crash on the Southwest side early Monday morning.

It happened at around 4 A.M. on SW Loop 410 at Old Pearsall Road.

A man driving a sport utility vehicle slammed into the back of an 18 wheeler that was parked on side of the highway.

Firefighters worked to free the man from the heavily damaged vehicle but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the tractor trailer’s lights were flashing at the time of the crash and the truck driver wasn’t hurt.

Traffic was reduced to one lane for a few hours while emergency crews cleared the scene.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released.
