Female inmate at Bexar County jail dead of an apparent suicide

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – A female inmate at the Bexar County Jail has died of an apparent suicide.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says a detention deputy caught the 37-year-old inmate trying to commit suicide Sunday morning and tried to stop her.

“The Deputy took immediate action by utilizing the cutting tool specifically designed for suicide attempts and immediately began life saving measures while calling for assistance,” said a press release from the sheriff’s office.

The woman was pronounced dead at 10:38 a.m. Sunday.

The sheriff says the deputy had just checked on the inmate thirty-minutes earlier, and all observation checks were made in accordance with state jail standards.

The woman was booked last Thursday on charges of possession of a controlled substance and felony theft in Wilson County.
