Firefighters rescue man trapped on second floor of burning Northeast side townhome

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – San Antonio firefighters have rescued a young man trapped on the second floor of a Northeast Side townhome.
The first crew on the scene at the Oak Grove Townhomes on Starcrest near Nacogdoches Road saw a man hanging out a second-story window.
“They were able to get a ladder up there. They got him out and started fighting the fire,” said Battalion Chief Steve Reuthinger.
Vicente Freeman woke up when one of his sons ran downstairs yelling “fire.” Freeman told KTSA News they couldn’t get to his other son because of the intense smoke.
“The fire department had to take him down the ladder. There was too much smoke and too much fire,” said Freeman.
EMS checked him out on the scene and he’s okay.
Reuthinger says damage to the townhome is estimated at $10,000 to the contents and $40,000 to the building. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to three other townhomes in that building.
