Fireworks hotline begins operations in Bexar County

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Independence Day is coming fast, and that means fireworks and an elevated risk of fires.

The Bexar County Public Safety Communications Center will operate a fireworks hotline from July 1 through July 5.

If you are in unincorporated Bexar County and you see unsafe or illegal uses of fireworks, you are urged to call 210-335-FIRE (3473). Medical emergencies or fires caused by fireworks should be reported by calling 911.

The Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office reminds you that it is illegal to set off fireworks within 600 feet of a hospital, sanitarium, veterinary hospital, school or church; and within 100 feet of a fuel dispensing station for flammable or combustible liquids; and to discharge fireworks at or from a motor vehicle.

Violations are Class C misdemeanors, punishable by fines from $100 to $2,000.

You can learn more about firework safety by visiting the Fire Marshal’s Office.
