Fischer Park in New Braunfels wins $90K for revitalization project

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Fischer Park in New Braunfels will be getting a face lift worth $90,000 as a winner in the 2021 Niagara Perk Your Park Contest.

The contest is part of the Niagara Perk Your Park Project, a nationwide initiative that focuses on park and community space revitalization.

“We are so excited to receive this funding from Niagara to improve Fischer Park,” said New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Director Stacey Dicke. “We are thankful for the community support throughout the contest. We know our residents love Fischer Park, and now there will be even more to love thanks to this grant.”

The upgrades to Fischer Park will include direct access to 30-acres of the restored Blackland Prairie which will connect to the park’s “Enchanted Forest,” an already existing wooded area that will be converted into a public space for hiking with trails, signage and a nature-play area. The funding will also continue restoration work to balance the urban forest, increase the tree canopy and improve the local wildlife habitat.

“We’re thrilled to support this nature-based play project in New Braunfels,” says Kristen Venick, Director of Niagara Cares. “It was exciting to see the community come together to vote for this project and we look forward to the enhancement of Fischer Park.”

Parks in Temple, Dallas and the Houston suburb of Missouri City have previously been selected as winners of the Perk Your Park project.
