Former San Antonio councilman elected as VIA chairman

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Not long after leaving the San Antonio city council, former city councilman Rey Saldana has been elected to be the VIA Metropolitan Board of Trustees chairman.

The appointment was approved by a unanimous vote by the board of trustees Tuesday.  Saldana will replace Hope Andrade in the role.

“We are grateful for the leadership of Chair Andrade and our Board, which has brought VIA into an era of growth and innovation,” VIA President and CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt said. “And we are eager to keep moving forward under Chairman Saldana’s vision for a more mobile future—a ‘Decade of Mobility’ that will change the course for our community.”

Saldana was celebrated by VIA in a statement for his actions on the city council to increase funding to the transportation authority.
