Friday school closures around San Antonio over freezing conditions

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Local school districts are making decisions about whether school is in session Thursday and Friday amid the forecast of freezing conditions.

Note: This list will be updated as districts update their plans.

School districts that have announced they will be closed Friday:

  • Alamo Heights ISD: AHISD campuses and offices will be closed Friday, February 4, 2022, because of inclement weather.
  • Bandera ISD: Due to inclement weather conditions, all Bandera ISD classes/activities are canceled and all offices will be closed on Friday, February 4th. Stay Safe & Use Caution!
  • Boerne ISD: Due to inclement weather conditions, all Boerne ISD classes are canceled and all offices will be closed on Friday, February 4th.
  • Blanco ISD: “Due to inclement weather, sub-zero wind chills and the threat of icy road conditions, Blanco ISD schools and offices will be closed Thursday, February 3, 2022 and Friday, February 4, 2022. Stay safe and warm!”
  • Comal ISD: “All Comal ISD campuses and departments will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3, and Friday, Feb. 4. In addition, all extracurricular activities for those days as well as Saturday morning are canceled.”
  • East Central ISD: The forecast for the wintry mix continues through tomorrow. Due to the anticipated icy conditions and out of an abundance of caution, all schools in our District will be closed tomorrow (Friday), Feb. 4. East Central ISD has enough instructional minutes required by the State of Texas built into our academic calendar so students will not need to make up this day. Staff, however, may be required to make up the day. Staff is encouraged to contact their supervisor first with any questions. All sports and extracurricular activities are canceled or postponed; please contact your coach or advisor for more details.
  • Edgewood ISD: Due to the continued inclement weather in our area, we will remain closed through Friday, February 4, 2022. Please continue to follow us on our social media platforms or visit eisd.net for more info.
  • Fort Sam Houston ISD: Due to the continued inclement weather, all FSHISD offices and campuses will again be CLOSED on Friday, February 4, 2022. All extracurricular activities will also be canceled. We hope all our Cougar families are staying warm and safe. See you Monday!
  • Harlandale ISD: Harlandale Family: as we continue to monitor weather conditions, we have decided to close all campuses and district offices, Friday, February 4. All athletic events will be canceled as well and rescheduled for a later date. We will reopen for normal operations on Monday, Feb. 7. Please stay safe!
  • Lackland ISD: Due to the continued weather threat, we are cancelling school and all school-related activities for tomorrow (Friday, February 4, 2022). Classes will resume on Monday, February 7, 2022.
  • Medina Valley ISD: MVISD schools & offices will remain closed on Feb. 4 due to inclement weather. All extracurricular activities have also been cancelled. We will return to our normal schedule on Feb. 7. *The Elementary UIL event scheduled for Saturday (2/5) will be rescheduled for a later date.*
  • New Braunfels ISD: NBISD has decided to cancel school on Feb. 4. All NBISD campuses and offices will re-open on Feb. 7. Extra-curricular activities for 2/4 are also canceled and will be rescheduled. Thank you for your continued support of our district and patiences throughout this weather event.
  • Northside ISD: Northside ISD schools and offices will be closed again on Friday, Feb. 4.
  • North East ISD: North East ISD will close all schools and offices Friday, Feb. 4.
    Weather forecasts show conditions are not improving, and there is a high probability of water freezing on roadways overnight as temperatures continue to drop. The morning commute will likely be impacted and many roadways are expected to be closed until at least tomorrow afternoon. In addition, several of our schools are experiencing intermittent power. Out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of our students and staff in mind, we believe closing is the best option. All extracurricular activities are also canceled.
  • Judson ISD: “JISD will not hold classes on Thurs., Feb. 3. All school and district buildings will be physically closed. Converse ES & JECA will not hold classes on Friday, February 4, all other students have a scheduled holiday. All school and district buildings will be closed. The anticipated weather is expected to cause hazardous road conditions, making it unsafe to travel. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution to keep our students and staff safe. We appreciate your support.”
  • San Antonio ISD: For the safety of staff and students, all SAISD schools and offices will remain closed on Friday, Feb. 4. Additionally, the final Superintendent Town Hall scheduled for Friday has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m., either in-person at Highlands High School or via Zoom. The survey will now remain open through midnight Feb. 8. A board meeting to share the results of the Superintendent Search to date is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 10, at 5:30 p.m., at SAISD Central Office, 514 W. Quincy St., 78212.   • San Marcos CISD: “All San Marcos CISD campuses and offices will be closed Thursday (February 3) and Friday (February 4). Due to inclement weather and unsafe road conditions, SMCISD has based our decision to close as we value the safety of our staff and students. SMCISD will return to regular district operations on Monday, February 7, 2022. Please take care of your families, stay safe, and we look forward to reuniting next week.”
  • SCUC ISD: All SCUC ISD schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, February 4. The weather and road conditions have not improved enough to ensure a safe commute to and from school tomorrow. All extracurricular activities scheduled for Friday evening will be rescheduled. Normal school operations will resume on Monday, February 7. Continue to stay safe and warm.
  • Somerset ISD: All Somerset ISD schools and offices will be closed Friday, Feb. 4. Please stay safe and check Somerset ISD’s website and social media platforms for updates.
  • South San ISD: FRIDAY WEATHER UPDATE: South San ISD will remain closed Friday, Feb. 4 due to inclement weather.
  • Southside ISD: All Southside ISD schools and offices will remain closed on Friday, February 4, 2022 due to winter weather conditions. All extracurricular activities will be canceled.
  • Southwest ISD: All SWISD schools and administrative offices will remain closed through Friday, Feb. 4.
  • Southwest Preparatory School District via email: Southwest Preparatory School District will close all campuses and offices in San Antonio and Seguin on Friday, February 4, for safety concerns due to the forecast for expected inclement weather. Higher education:

  • Texas A&M San Antonio: Attention Jaguars: A&M-San Antonio campus operations will be virtual Friday, February 4, with only essential personnel on-site. The University will be open for teaching/learning, business operations and student services, but all of these will occur remotely. Via email they said on-campus operations will resume Saturday, February 5.
  • UTSA: Due to sub-freezing temperatures and the likelihood of road closures due to ice accumulation, all UTSA classes including in-person teaching will remain in a remote online learning format on Feb. 4 and 5.

  • Medina Valley ISD: “All MVISD schools and offices will be closed on Thurs, Feb 3 due to expected inclement weather. All extracurricular activities have also been cancelled. We are monitoring the weather and will make a decision tomorrow afternoon on whether or not classes will resume on Fri Feb 4.”
  • New Braunfels ISD: “After visiting with the National Weather Service and local meteorologists, NBISD has made the decision to close Thursday, Feb. 3rd, due to the high probability of winter weather and hazardous road conditions. All extra-curricular activities have also been canceled for tomorrow.”
  • North East ISD: “ALL NEISD SCHOOLS & OFFICES CLOSED THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 3.”
  • Northside ISD: “Northside ISD will close all schools and offices Thursday, Feb. 3. All extracurricular activities will also be canceled. The decision is made out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of our students and staff in mind. The latest forecasts are calling for weather conditions to potentially get worse throughout the day. WE want to make sure individuals are not traveling in dangerous road conditions either on their way to or from school.”
  • San Antonio ISD via email: “SAISD will hold its Superintendent Search town hall tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Edison High School at 6 p.m. However, the district has issued a winter weather notice for tomorrow. For the safety of all staff and students, all SAISD schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 3.”
  • San Marcos CISD: “All San Marcos CISD campuses and offices will be closed Thursday (February 3) and Friday (February 4). Due to inclement weather and unsafe road conditions, SMCISD has based our decision to close as we value the safety of our staff and students. SMCISD will return to regular district operations on Monday, February 7, 2022. Please take care of your families, stay safe, and we look forward to reuniting next week.”
  • SCUC ISD: “All SCUC ISD schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, February 3. After monitoring local weather forecasts closely, many of the forecast models are now consistently showing a good possibility of ice accumulation in our area, especially tomorrow afternoon. … All extracurricular activities scheduled for tomorrow, February 3 are also canceled. At this time, we plan to have a regular school day on Friday, February 4, which is a planned early release day. We will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions throughout the day on Thursday to make a decision about school on Friday.”
  • Southwest ISD: “Due to anticipated inclement weather and out of an abundance of caution, all Southwest ISD schools and administrative offices will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3. In addition, all extracurricular activities and events will be postponed. At this time, all district operations and schools will reopen as regularly scheduled Friday, Feb. 4. However, we will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions and notify you of any delays or closures in the late Thursday afternoon.”
  • South San ISD: “District closed Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022. Please monitor District News and Social Media for Updates.”

Higher education:

  • Texas A&M San Antonio: “Due to expected inclement weather and the possibility of dangerous road conditions Faculty will provide online instruction for classes Thursday. The University will be open for teaching/learning, business operations, and student services, but all of these will occur remotely.”
  • UTSA: “With freezing temperatures and icy conditions possible, all day and evening classes including in-person teaching will shift online on Thursday, February 3.”
