Gas Prices Fall, Crude Oil Prices Fluctuate Amid COVID-19 Concerns

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A seven cent drop means San Antonio drivers are enjoying the lowest average gas price in the state.

AAA Texas is out with their Weekend Gas Watch.

The auto club is finding the statewide average coming in a $2.79. That’s down a nickel from last week but still 88 cents higher than one year ago.

In San Antonio, drivers are finding an average price per gallon of $2.62. Down 7 cents form last week and 82 cents higher than a year ago.

“It’s been a busy summer driving season at the pumps, and the latest U.S. demand data shows many are still likely turning to road trips this summer,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. Even with more people driving, gas prices continue to trickle down as crude oil prices have been volatile due to concerns about future demand due to rising COVID-19 cases.”

Currently, all eyes are on the Caribbean and tropical storm Ida. While Ida’s path remains uncertain at this time, forecasters say it’s possible it could impact the U.S. Gulf Coast next week where numerous refineries are located.
