Gas prices take an unexpected dip

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Drivers are seeing a surprise drop in prices at the pump.  AAA Texas reports the statewide average price this week is $2.59 for a gallon of regular unleaded, down 3 cents from last week. It’s the first time since February that Texas has seen a drop in fuel costs.

“San Antonio drivers are paying the lowest prices in Texas at an average of $2.45, down three pennies from last week,” said Josh Zuber with AAA Texas.

Zuber says an all-time record high for domestic crude production last week at 12.3 million barrels per day contributed to the substantial growth in U.S. crude stocks. Don’t expect the drop in prices to continue.

“We’re expecting the demand for gasoline to get more intense during the busy spring and summer driving months. Plus, we’re going to see that summer blend gasoline come online, which is more expensive,” said Zuber.

He expects gas prices to continue rising as we approach the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
