SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Expect long lines at entrances to a couple of local military installations because of construction.

As of today, the main gate at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph is closed until April first, so you’ll have to use the east, west or south gates. The Schertz Police Department warns in a Facebook Post that drivers should expect heavy traffic congestion on FM 78 during the morning and afternoon hours.

The Visitors Center will be open during normal duty hours Monday through Friday with shuttle service available.

Also starting today, the Jadwin gate at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston also will be closed for construction. That work is expected to continue for 115 days.

At JBSA-Lackland, the Valley Hi Gate will be closed for 134 days, starting January 21.

“We’re working closely with the Texas Department of Transportation and local law
enforcement to ensure that we meet the needs of our neighboring cities,” said Capt. Nathan Spradley, 902nd Security Forces Squadron operations officer. “These projects will enhance our ability to defend the base and protect both missions and people at JBSA.”
