SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Gina Ortiz Jones , who narrowly lost last year to Republican U.S. Representative Will Hurd,  is challenging him again.

“Last November, I came up a little bit short in my run for congress — 926 votes –but I’ve never been one to back down because the promise of our country is worth fighting for,” the former Air Force intelligence officer said in a video announcing her 2020 bid Tuesday morning.  “It’s why I served in the military , deployed to Iraq, it’s why I served in President Obama’s administration, and it’s why I’ve dedicated my life to public service.”

Ortiz Jones refused to concede the last election for two weeks.

Hurd, a former CIA officer from Helotes, currently represents the vast 23rd Congressional District .  It stretches from San Antonio to El Paso and includes hundreds of miles of  the border between Texas and Mexico.

Bob Salera with the National Republican Campaign Committee issued a statement saying if Ortiz Jones wins the Democratic nomination, she’ll be defeated again.

“If the definition of insanity truly is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, someone should check on Texas Democrats,” Salera said.

Hurd, a former CIA officer from Helotes, currently represents the vast 23rd Congressional District .  It stretches from San Antonio to El Paso and includes hundreds of miles of  the border between Texas and Mexico.
