Governor Greg Abbott announces reward for information leading to arrest of whoever murdered 90-year-old Houston veteran
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Governor’s Public Safety Office is putting up a big reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever shot and killed a 90-year-old navy veteran in Houston over the weekend.
Police say it happened just before 1 p.m. Saturday just outside a retirement community on Houston’s Southwest Side.
Video shows a man approaching a car being driven by Nelson Beckett. The man is seen beating Becket, then shooting him, pulling him out of the car, then running him over as he drove off.
Beckett was brought to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His car was located at an apartment complex just a few miles away from the crime scene.
Governor Greg Abbott says a reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that brings in whoever killed Beckett.
Abbott issued the following statement:
“Cecilia and I are deeply saddened to hear of the murder of 90-year-old Navy veteran Nelson Beckett in Houston.
Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones, and the entire Houston community during this difficult time.
Texas is already working with our local partners and providing full support in bringing this criminal to justice.
