Gulf storm could impact Texas gas prices

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A slight increase in gas prices as the work week comes to an end.

AAA Texas Spokesperson Joshua Zuber tells us the statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is up one penny to $2.47.

“Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.74 while drivers in McAllen are paying the least at $2.35 per gallon. San Antonio, your paying just a penny more than that at $2.36.”

Zuber warns that the storm in the Gulf of Mexico could have an effect on the cost of filling up.

“Historically, hurricanes and tropical storms have impacted gas prices if oil and gas production operations are affected. The U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement indicates that 32% of oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico have been taken offline due to the storm.”

Zuber says it’s still too early to determine the full effects the storm could have on retail gas prices in Texas.
