SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — An iconic music video from the 1980’s has reached a milestone.
It’s one billion YouTube views and counting for Guns N’ Roses classic song “Sweet Child O’ Mine”.
The video shows footage of the band rehearsing, complete with lead singer Axl Rose doing some strange, snake like dance. There’s also a few frames of Erin Everly. She was Rose’s girlfriend at the time and the song was actually written about her.
Rose has said the band had a different and much darker idea for the video before filming what you currently see.
He tells Radio Host Eddie Trunk the original concept was a drug trafficking theme with a woman carrying the drug filled corpse of a dead baby into a foreign country.
That probably wouldn’t have made it past MTV censors in 1988.
“Sweet Child O’ Mine” is the first music video from the 1980s to reach the one billion view mark on the popular website.
It has averaged close to 600-thousand views a day during 2019.
