SAN ANTONIO (Texas News Radio) — Hays County is no longer recognizing Columbus Day, instead celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

The decision was made in a proclamation in Hays County Commissioners Court Tuesday.

KVUE-TV said the change is effective immediately.

The date of the holiday is moving from October 14th, which the county said was not an official county holiday, to October 12th and will be observed by the county.
