I-35 to close this weekend for bridge demolition

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Interstate 35 will be closed for 18 hours this weekend in Schertz so crews can demolish an overpass.

TxDOT says the main lanes will be closed in both directions starting at 9 p.m. Saturday and will stay closed until 3 p.m. Sunday so the old FM 1103 overpass can be removed.

Traffic will exit onto the frontage road at FM 1103 and reenter on the entrance ramp beyond FM 1103.

When the old bridge is removed, the new FM 1103 overpass will only be used by westbound traffic.  Eastbound traffic will need to go south to FM 2252 and make a U-turn to get to the other side of Interstate 35.

Eastbound traffic will not be able to use the overpass until spring 2019.

The entire bridge widening project is expected to be completed next summer.
