Indigenous Peoples’ Day march scheduled Monday afternoon in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Monday is Columbus Day, a federal holiday commemorating the landing of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492, but in many cities, including San Antonio, it’s also Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The Texas Indigenous Council is planning a march downtown  to show support for human rights and indigenous Americans.

It will begin at 2 pm Monday at Piazza Italia Park, formerly known as Columbus Park where a statue of Christopher Columbus once stood.

The statue was removed from the park near West Martin and IH 10 July 1 for repairs. City Council voted to return it to the Christopher Columbus Italian Society of San Antonio.
