Infant suffers severe head injuries in DWI accident in San Antonio’s East Side

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) A three-month-old baby suffered severe head injuries when his mother crashed into a concrete barrier on a highway on IH 10 near Roland Avenue in the city’s East Side early Monday.

Police believe the woman was drunk behind the wheel of  a Chevy Tahoe when she lost control of the vehicle and swerved across several lanes, hitting the concrete barrier around 2:30 Monday morning. She’s identified as 24-year-old Justine Nicole Garcia.

Police say the baby boy was in a car seat that was not properly attached to the back seat of the Tahoe.  He was transported to Children’s Hospital of San Antonio with a skull fracture and a  contusion to the back of the head.
