Inmate dies at Bexar County jail after ‘medical episode’

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) -An inmate at the Bexar County Jail died Monday morning after suffering what officials describe as a medical episode.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says the 43-year-old man was found unresponsive during a face-to-face observation check shortly after 10 a.m. Monday.  The detention deputy performed life-saving measures and called for assistance. The inmate was pronounced dead at 10:39 a.m. A preliminary report indicates the medical episode was related to a pre-existing medical condition.

The man was booked September 20 on a criminal trespass charge with a bond of $500.00, but he did not qualify for a personal recognizance bond under the  governor’s order because of his extensive criminal history which included domestic violence-related charges.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s internal affairs, public integrity, and criminal investigations division are probing the death.

The inmate’s identity will be released after relatives have been notified.
