SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Because “Taco Tuesday” is not enough.

Today is National Taco Day. (Of course EVERY day is Taco Day in San Antonio but hey, let’s just throw down and show the rest of the country how it’s done.)

The popularity of tacos has grown significantly in recent years. Even Burger King is getting in on Americas taste for tacos. (I know, I know but doggone it, they just wanted to give it a shot.)

How much do Americans love tacos? nationaltacoday-dot-com has released this statistic.

Americans ate over four and a half billion tacos in 2018.

That’s 490-thousand- miles of tacos. If you were to stack them, there would be enough to take a person to the moon and back.

We attempted to look into the origin of tacos but we came up emptier than the line to get a Burger King taco.

Jeffrey M. Pilcher, is a Taco Expert. (where do you apply for THAT job?)

His claim is that the word comes from the silver mines in Mexico in the 18th century. Back then the a taco was a little explosive  that workers used to extract the ore.

We don’t know if that’s true but when you think about the typical guttural reaction one has after a taco or two…it makes perfect sense.
