SAN ANTONIO (Texas News Radio) — A Jordanian man has been sentenced to 36 months in federal prison for trying to bring Yemeni aliens through Mexico into the United States.

The Department of Justice said 31-year-old Moayad Heider Mohammad Aldairi conspired to bring at least six Yemeni nationals across the Texas border into the United States in exchange for a fee in 2017.

He admitted to transporting aliens from Monterrey to Piedras Negras where he directed the aliens to cross the Rio Grande into the United States. Aldairi had provided them with construction hard hats and reflective vests to blend in after sneaking into the United States.

“Aldairi endangered our national security by smuggling unvetted aliens across our border into the United States,” said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.  “The Department of Justice and our law enforcement partners will steadfastly pursue investigations and prosecutions to disrupt smugglers like Aldairi and end the risk they pose to our safety.”
