SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – The city of Austin has closed a popular lake after reports that at least three dogs died after swimming there. The blue-green algae in the water is the problem, and Red Bud Isle at Lady Bird Lake remains closed.
Low levels of a neurotoxin have been found in the blue-green algae. If ingested by animals, it could cause excessive drooling, vomiting and diarrhea. Other symptoms to watch for include foaming at the mouth, blood in the urine and stumbling.
It can also be harmful to humans.
