LaVernia ISD Board weighs pros and cons of 4 day school week, vote could come in February
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Another area school district is considering a move to a four-day school week.
School officials with the LaVernia ISD took up the matter during a board meeting Monday night.
Board members heard the results of two focus groups and two parent surveys.
The first survey showed less than half of the responding parents favoring a 4 day school week.
Among the concerns they brought up, child care and the quality of instruction their children would receive during a 4 day week.
In the second poll, in which those concerns were addressed, the results didn’t change much but the number of parents favoring 4 days of classes climbed to 57%
The district says they are working with the YMCA to address daycare concerns, transportation and meals.
The school board didn’t make a decision at Monday night’s meeting but they will vote on the matter in February.
