Longtime San Antonio Sports Anchor Greg Simmons resigns

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A face familiar to generations of San Antonio TV viewers has announced he is resigning.

Greg Simmons, who has been the Sports Director at KSAT-12 for 42 years submitted his resignation Monday.

His resignation comes less than a week after he was arrested for Suspicion of DWI.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office reported that Simmons was pulled over at around 3 A.M Friday, January 27 in the 3900 block of Evans Road.

He was spotted driving erratically by a Deputy who reportedly followed Simmons with lights and siren for several minutes.

When Simmons did stop, he smelled of alcohol and wasn’t able to maintain his balance or recite the alphabet.

The Sheriff’s Office says Simmons told the Deputy he had been at The Green Lantern on Stone Oak Parkway.

The following statement from Simmons was posted on the KSAT-12 website:

“For the past 42 years, I have had the honor of working with the best in the business while sharing my passion for sports and our community with all of you. I am overwhelmed and humbled by the love and support from family, friends and viewers in light of recent events. I have resigned from my role as Sports Director at KSAT 12. I am grateful for the opportunity this brings to focus on my health and wellness, and what the future will bring.”
