Ahead of Governor Greg Abbott’s State of the State address Tuesday–the Mexican American Legislative Caucus is out with it’s own to do list for the Governor to tackle.
“The future of Texas is inextricably linked to the success or failure of the Latino community” State Representative Rafael Anchia–who leads MALC–said at the Capitol in Austin Monday, setting out an agenda he and a number of others want to hear Governor Abbott embrace in his address.
“We need good paying jobs. We need a quality public education. We need to take care of our veterans… and, we need healthy communities” Anchia said in outlining four key priorities.
Anchia also wants to hear Abbott draw some lines when it comes to plans set out by the Trump Administration.
“We need vocal and muscular leadership here in Texas to tell Washington not to mess with us” Anchia said, referring to the President’s plan for building a wall along the Southern Border.
“We rely on him (Abbott) and we need for him to tell Washington how things on the ground here are different than the new President perceives them” Anchia added, also referencing what may lie ahead if Obamacare were to be repealed.
“We want to understand the Governor’s vision for how we fill that gap if the Affordable Care Act is repealed” Anchia said.
