Man Arrested Following SW Side Standoff

A man accused of assaulting a woman and holding her against her will at a Southwest Side Apartment is behind bars.

Police were called to the complex on South Zarzamora near Calaveras Street just after 4 this morning.

“A woman called to report that her friend was being held against her will in the apartment by her ex-boyfriend,” said San Antonio Police Sgt. Jesse Salame.

The woman told police the man was beating her friend and he had a gun, so officers evacuated the complex and the SWAT team was called.

“After about an hour or an hour and a half, the woman ran out the front door,” said Salame.

However, the suspect refused to surrender and held officers at bay for several hours until officers fired bean bags at him.

Salame says no one was seriously hurt.
