SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A body was found on the side of a northern Bexar County road Monday morning.

Bexar County sheriff Javier Salazar said the body was found in the area of Rustic Oak and Running Springs — which is off of Smithson Valley Road.

Salazar said they do not have an identification of the man, but described him as being Hispanic, heavy set and heavily tattooed.  He would not guesstimate how old the man is.

The sheriff said the body had significant signs of trauma, but it’s not clear whether that was from some sort of assault or whether he was struck by a vehicle.

It is believed he died early Monday morning.

Tips that can help the investigation should be called into the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office at 210-335-TIPS.

If this death is determined to be a homicide, Salazar said it would be the 11th so far in 2019, matching the total count for all of 2018.

The sheriff said the county’s gang unit will look to see if this death is at all gang related.
