SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A second person within 24 hours was shot and killed by San Antonio police Monday.

San Antonio police say they got a call about a shooting at around 2:00 p.m. Monday for a shooting at S. Pine and Iowa.  Police say the initial details stated the victim had been shot during a robbery.

Officers arriving to the scene relayed the description of the suspected car over the radio to other officers.

A few minutes later, police say another pair of officers spotted the car less than a mile away and stopped the car less than a mile away at S. Olive and Westfall.

Police say the suspect pulled over, then immediately got out of his car and shot at the officers.  The bullets missed the officers, but struck their patrol car.

The two officers — five-year and seven-year veterans, respectively — shot back, striking the suspect.

The man was taken to SAMMC where he died shortly after arrival.

The investigation continues and will eventually be reviewed by the Bexar County District Attorney.  Both officers are on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation, as per protocol in officer-involved shootings.

The suspect’s identification was not released by police.

UPDATE 1:45 p.m.: The suspect has been identified as 17-year-old Jeremy Ponce.
