Man shot while attacking a New Braunfels Police Officer with a sword

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A veteran New Braunfels Police Officer is on administrative leave after shooting a man who attacked the officer with a sword.

It happened at around 5 A.M. Monday in the 200 block of Redbud Lane.

The officer was responding to a call about a suspicious person who was causing multiple disturbances in the area.

When police learned of the man’s whereabouts, they knocked on the door and tried making contact with him.

After a few minutes, the man opened the door and started swinging a sword at the officer.

The officer fired at the sword wielding man who tried running back into the home. Other officers at the scene used a taser to stop him.

The man, 30 year old Jacob Burzynski, was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound. He’s in stable condition and once he is released, he will be charged with Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer with bail set at $100,000.

The officer, who has been with the New Braunfels Police Department for 12 years, was not hurt. He is on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated by the Texas Rangers.
