Massive apartment fire displaces several northeast San Antonio families
SAN ANTONIO (KTSANews) – Several Northeast Side families are relocating after a massive fire damaged or destroyed more than 2 dozen families.
More than 100 firefighters battled the two-alarm blaze at the Alamo Park Apartments on Austin Highway near Perrin Beitel Road around 1:15 this morning.
“It started in a utility closet on a second floor balcony where a water heater, a washer and dryer were located,” said Joe Arrington with the San Antonio Fire Department.
The flames quickly spread up the wall to the third floor and the common attic space with flames shooting through the roof.
“It completely destroyed the third floor of the apartments. Twenty-five apartments were affected,” said Arrington.
Thirty-one residents, including 5 children, were displaced. Arrington says the American Red Cross was working with the managers of the apartment complex to find places for the families to stay.
